A new home for creativity and collaboration, the relocation
to Grossnickle Hall at NJCU marks a new chapter for the
program, strengthening the partnership between Jersey City
Public Schools and New Jersey City University. The
expanded space will provide students with state-of-the-art
studios, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues,
fostering collaboration between high school and university
artists and educators.
Jersey City Public Schools is proud to announce the grand
opening of the new and expanded location for the Jersey
City Arts High School Program, now housed at Grossnickle
Hall on the campus of New Jersey City University.
Dr. Norma Fernández, Chief School Administrator of Jersey
City Public Schools, and Andrés Acebo, the 13th President of
New Jersey City University, lead the ribbon cutting
ceremony.
Established in 1981, the Jersey City Arts High School
Program has been a district-wide visual and performing arts
magnet program dedicated to nurturing the city’s most
talented young artists.
The conservatory-style program offers specialized
instruction in disciplines including visual arts, music, and
theater. For more than four decades, the program has
provided a foundation for aspiring artists to pursue their
dreams—many alumni have gone on to earn scholarships
and admission offers from the nation’s top art colleges
and conservatories, collectively amounting to millions of
dollars in scholarship awards each year.
