Student Perspective
Upon my arrival at James J. Ferris High School, my initial
plan was to be an average student, socialize with my friends,
and engage in minimal activities. That all changed thanks to
a project in my Finance class. A昀琀er presenting, my teacher
complimented my deep, confident voice and suggested I join
Student Council to help with the morning announcements.
Initially, I was reluctant, but I ultimately acquiesced, and
that marked the beginning of a significant transformation.
Speaking in front of the school gave me a new level of
confidence. Since I was already involved in one activity, I
pushed myself to join more clubs. That’s when I started to
develop a strong work ethic.
Another major turning point came in ELA. I used to hate
English class, but my teacher’s energy and passion made me
look at it differently. His enthusiasm made me excited to
learn, and when he offered an extra credit assignment, I saw
it as a challenge. I studied harder than I ever had before,
every morning, every night, and even during my free
periods. That effort led me to compete in our school
competition, which I won. I later represented Ferris at the
Poetry Out Loud event at Passaic County Community
College and competed there, too.
These two amazing opportunities, the Student Council and
the Poetry Out Loud competition, entirely changed the
course of my life. They helped me become more focused,
confident, and driven. Now, I'm proud to share my story on
JCETV and show how James J. Ferris High School helped me
grow into the person that I am today.
